virago \vuh-RAH-go; vuh-RAY-go\, noun:
1. A woman of extraordinary stature, strength, and courage.
2. A woman regarded as loud, scolding, ill-tempered, quarrelsome, or overbearing.
[what a surprise, this second definition]
Erasmus said it first, but Tom Waits said it best.
"If I were King of the Forest,
Not queen, not duke, not prince.
My regal robes of the forest,
would be satin, not cotton, not chintz."

The cowardly lion quote is only good if you sing it like him. I just did, right now, in my office. I have no idea what my coworkers are thinking...

If you can roll your "r's" and affect a slight lisp, it's even more gratifying.
I should have included "...each rabbit would show respect for me. The chipmunks genuflect to me..."
I am enchanted by the image of pious chipmunks. Their tiny little paws stretching to make the sign of the cross and their buck-toothed faces quietly mouthing "in the name of the fatter sunflower oily roast."
